This is ancient but I think there are some articles on exactly how to use beat detective, its on TDM and version 6.7 LE up....you might want to search for one of the cats that is Full Sail possibly.....??? I personally never used it....I use the tap function but I heard that the beat detective course alone is on CD LOL and costs like 50$ no lie

in your edit window there is a thing called 'identify beat"

on the top left hand corner there are 3 boxes that can be highlighted... i forget what they look like cuz im not at my studio.. but its the one to the left of the box with the a-z symbol on it... this is called tab to transient... this is where it gets fun... now select slip mode... go to the waveform start from in front of it.. and press tab and it will take you to all hits on the beat... once you get the starting point jus hold shift and keep pressing tab till you have reached the disired length of the loop you want..

now go to the edit screen and select near the bottom identify beat doesnt matter where you are bar/minutes wise in the song... if you gotta 2 bar loop jus say start point 1 bar end point 3bar.. and it will give you the tempo...

note i usually seperate region before i go to the edit screen which is "apple e" on my mac..
what this does is allow you to chop the desired sample you want... and once you kno the bpm you can time strech anything in the sample you want...

i jus use identify beat really to give me the tempo of the track.. but it usually varies a lil thru the coarse of a song at time. then i chop my start and ending, and time stretch to the tempo i want and i make bangas

where does it tell me what the tempo is after i hit identify beat?

its should be at the start point where you picked to use identify beat,,,, where you normally see the tempo found.

what might be eaiser for you is to chop the sample using the tab to transient feature i told you about above. moving the sample to the beginning the 1st bar and doing indetify beat there... that way the rest of the track will be at tempo to the song...

but the tempo sig shoud be where it normally is jus moved to whereeva start point you chose to chop the sample at..
