If your working in fruity, you should save your files in .zip format, cause the .flp format is just kind of a memory file, its got the info on where on your hd the samples are u use and the setting of the beat.. if you save it in .zip format than the whole beat is saved in a zipfile and there is no trouble when a sample gets lost/deleted or when the zip file is moved.

this is true but I even had them corrupted.
still don't know what was wrong.
as soon as I'm finished in fruity I render them to wav (induvidual tracks) and save them that way.
I can edit and mix them in a multitrack recorder any time.

There were worse things, when working on FT2 back in the day the program sometimes just decided to quit so you had to reboot into DOS again. That's one track I could've worked on for a whole night which just disappeared, supposing it made a backup.xm file. It gets worse when you forget to rename the backup.xm and start on another track and it hangs again. It overwrites the backup.xm, the track you lost before, again. It's my own stupidity and mostly due smokin', but I have lost countless beats this way.

Off topic, but just sharing the pain you know hehe.

Sometimes I've had the problem, that the file was corrupt too or the flp file couldnt be found in the zip, I dont know what the exact reason is for this, my guess is that it didnt save the file correctly. Nowadays I tend to save the file again renaming it by adding 01 , 02 etc.. Cause I hate losing a beat I worked on all night, that is fucked up.. but it can happen. :(

eka had a dope idea....... its would be a good idea to convert everything to a .wav file and save them to disk. actually, what i have done on a few beats is save the .wav file from each loop so it only takes up, say, a minute total worth of time for the pices of the beat- so in theory you could save the "blueprints" of each beat, and take one disk and put 50 beats on it that way. plus, think of the remix possibilities with that (not related to the problem itself)..... just some ideas.
