I am working on a beat tape and I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of how to get clearance to use someones acapellas. I suppose you need to find the copyright holder. Any thoughts on this?

I wouldnt worry about that too much, unless it is a bigass project where money will rain down on you. if that is the case get me involved LOL

you won't be able to sell them on itunes without having cleared them, tbh its very unlikely any of them will clear you to use their accapellas basically you would have to find the copyright holder, and would involve paying royalties on every cd you sold and possibly an up front fee aswell ! tbh its not worth considering doing really....

Yes. You definitely need to clear the acapella by obtaining a mechanical /reproductuion license (Harry Fox Agency) but since you are using the actual acapella u also need a master license from the record label.
But he wants to sell it online at itunes...

Maybe I should say a remix tape, I want an album full of my beats with MC's flowing over the top and of course I want to sell it.
