Well, even tho its probably not what u want to hear...there really isnt any quick fix to prgming any particular genra...My suggestion would be sit down an really pay attention to some of tha south stuff that you emulate and try and recreate tha songs from tha ground up...thats kind of a training wheels way to see tha whole picture unfold a little easier.
Its helped me in tha past when i got stuck. Let yer ears do tha majority of yer work for u.

I would have to say that dirty south style drums usually are double time beats meaning that the kick and snare take twice as long to play. Like instead of- boom, rest, rest, bap- it would be- boom, rest, rest, rest, bap. And usually the hi-hats are twice as fast with some half step rolls. Its really hard to expain so I'll make some dirty south style drum tracks in Reason 1.0 and post a link to download them soon. Hopefully that'll help man. But also Duece was right that its really important to listen to the type of music you want to make and try to pick apart each track.

CampO man the important thing is south coast drum programming is to use 808s. Use and abuse 808 drums and the use them some more.

listen to some David Banner, his production skills are just sick homie.

Like maji said the 808s are very important.. also when i program my stuff i might play like an boom..bap..baboom..bap, real chessy drum pattern but hook up the percussions, like i might program the hi hats at 1/16 and have a little pattern and then change to 1/32 and layer the hi hats again to give it that southern, bouncy, fast hi hat type feel.
