alright..... everything is setup, i am currently installing all my new vst instruments. so the problem now is that i am using only headphones to monitor things, because i cant really have monitors right now, nor can i afford them until i sell my proteus, which is proving harder than i thought! so i kind of need headphones to monitor for a while.....

the issue being that i cannot hear a stereo mix because i am running an adapter that turns the two outputs into a single mono signal..... so before i go out and buy the adaoter for the spdif to my headphones, am i correct in assuming that this output will produce a stereo field for me to listen back to?

Hey,

SPDIF to your headphones? That will cost you a lot of money....you'll have to get an interface which converts the digital signal to an analogue signal which can be sent to your headphones. About $100 for a cheap one.

What you should get is a cable which takes the two analogue mono RCA outputs from the Audiophile and mixes them into a single stereo headphone jack that you can plug your headphones into. You can get them from Radio Shack for about $5.00.

It will look like this photo, except the red and white plugs will be RCA.

Take care,

Nick

yep thats a good way to do it. no need for the digital signal for just monitoring. if you have any sort of stereo amp or portable stereo with inputs then you could plug the RCA outs into your stereo and plug your headphones into it. and you could also play it out loud.

yeah, thats what i was looking for originally. what i wound up getting is the same thing except it has a 1/8" male out instead of a female in.....

i cant find one of those anywhere. actually, i saw one on radioshack online that was an 18 inch cable, i may see if they have oone at the radio shack store itself.....

dont really know....

anyhow, i went out and got that stupid cable and it doesnt work either. now a question: my headphones are a 1/8" jack with the 1/4" adapter. i have no problems hearing stereo out of my proteus 2000, but this adapter from the soundcard will not work- all i can hear is one side or the other, depending on how far in it is. any other suggestions?

i was looking at some monitors with headphone jacks in them. will the headphone jacks in a pair of monitors output a stereo signal? given my living situation headphones are kind of a must...... or would a cheap behringer mixer work as a kind of monitoring system? plug the stereo ins and then plug the haedphones into the headphone jack on that?
