Check this out, I got this email today. It seems I am starting to get fans and stuff!?!?!?

Here is the text of the email with names removed.

Hi - this is probably going to seem like a very strange
message.................

My name is Ruth ******. I live in Dawsonville, Ga. I am a
video/graphics/web designer...........

I will try to make this brief. The reason for this email is because I
have been expanding my motion graphics skills and was searching for a
song for a project and came across your album. The song "Genesis" seemed
to be what I was looking for - and since I had no content in mind to
work with, I went thru your website and downloaded alot of your content
(pics, vids, etc) and put together a pretty nice (okay - that's my
opinion! lol) video. It's always easier to put something together if you
have an end result in mind - so I used you............hoping you may be
able to use this in promoting your songs and selfishly allowing me to
use it as a sample of what I am capable of doing and helping me get some
freelance work.

I have loaded it onto my non-functioning website for now so you can view
it and if you like it - I would be happy to send you the file so you can
do whatever you want with it...............just my way of saying thanks
for providing the music free for me to achieve this.

Please be aware that the size of this video is HUGE so it will take a
while to load in between buffers - but once it's in memory it should
play smoothly - just wait for the "play again" button. Also, this site
is not public - I am going to use it only as a reference and once I know
you have seen it I am going to password protect it. In the event you
don't like it you don't have to worry about it being seen without your
permission............but I do hope you like it because I have heard
some of your other music that I may like to use again in the future on
similar projects............after all, there's no such thing as bad
advertising, right?

Please let me know after you have viewed this so I can lock it down -
and your feedback would be appreciated............good or bad!

Well.... I dont think its cool as Relic promo material to tell you the truth.lol. But you know w/e do what you will, playing is playing.. lol
Its not like the vid is all that either. HOWEVER , its cool that someone wants to play with the material and I hope the most success to them.

It honestly looks like an email that she sent to multiple people and just replaced the song title with each person... it just looks like a template. Who knows though!

haha looks good, its better than somethings. This is kind of a Quick introduction to your brand (Very Roughly lol) Could be used though alittle slow in places. I'd appreciate it and keep the contact. Maybe do a video taped interview and ask to get it edited in. Or provide some feedback to get it tightened up.

Fans want to use your content for a range of things lol You may see some crazy shit in the future hahaha!!

Im not sure how effective that would be as far as promoting your music. To me it just looks like a cool demo. Nothing in it tells me to buy, where to find or what drunk pedestrians music is all about, or did I miss something?

If anything its cool someone dug your tunes enough to be inspired to make something from it though so I think its pretty cool regardless of how the video turned out. I mean thats why most of us make music in the first place right, to inspire others? Congrats Chris, i think thats pretty cool dude.

I think its pretty cool shes done that, I havent seen the video nor do I think I need to, the quality of it isnt really important. Whats important is that this girl was in a position where she hasnt got any demo material, so going and asking up front if it would be okay to do this could be pretty difficult, with no previous work to show off.
I think its pretty brave of her to go ahead without permission and then get in touch after the video is made, I have done similar things just going ahead and remixing peoples work then telling them after the fact, doing that has opened doors for me.
I applaud her for taking the initiative and I applaud you DP for inspiring her in the first place. Sometimes this is how networking can be achieved successfully.

and thats basically what I told her. She asked if she could use other music of mine and I said to use whatever she wanted, but that I did need to at least know about it because its all licensed on ASCAP so I don't want anyone getting in trouble.

But for real I wish her the best of luck.
