Even though its unfair to compare Reason and Fl Studio, but I am not looking at a major thing, I am looking at a small thing such as the way Fl Studio emulates sounds especially along the KeyBoard,
This is my experiment :
I loaded the same soundfont file in to each program, but somehow Fl Studio fails at emulating properly the notes and chords, and always seem out of par, with using Reason, I can actually compose tighter melodies cause I am actaully hearing the real notes that I can match to melody I am drafting in my mind.
Now has anyone else out there taken notice of this, for I am defintely thinking that Fl Studio is lacking some serious coding.
And if I am right, all of us guys using Fl Studio will have difficulty later on, actually composing with different sounds, cuz Fl Studio just might be teaching your ear to recognize foolishness.

wow I don't understand.

But I do know that it's been the longest since I haven't been able to play chords using any DXi plugin in FL studio. (including the standard issue dreamstation) and they haven't sent any support back to many even though I wrote them letters. Plus they don't hav e suppot line.

WHY IS MY LIFE SO HARD????!!!!

Oh and BTW this only happens with my DXi plugins. My VSt's work just fine.

Also, Sampletank is listed as a VST but when I instal it it's listed under DXi's.

Why is that? And I downloaded a sampletank demo but I can't delete it. It's forever been listed under my VST's in my generator list. WTF?

i used fruity loops right back when fruity tracks was just released and i stuck with it up until december where i switched to cubase.

i kinda agree in a way with what Krzy K has said

"And if I am right, all of us guys using Fl Studio will have difficulty later on, actually composing with different sounds, cuz Fl Studio just might be teaching your ear to recognize foolishness."

fruity definitely has its pros and cons and the reason i switched from fruity to cubase was because of a rather large con.

its a cool program and it makes it easy to get ideas down quickly but to be honest i was never 100% happy with the quality of the sound i got out of fruity. even if i made something in fruity and exported it out of fruity or played it in another program it sounded better almost straight away.

as much as i was familiar with fruity i had to give it away cos it just wasnt giving me what i needed. i still rate it as a very handy tool, but having said that i am trying to avoid it and expose myself to what else is out there. even as a vst it doesnt quite sound like it has enough guts for me.

DXi has higher latency opposed to VST(i) hence the timing issue when both are used. In fruity you can still use both depending on the utility. If it is a mastering or dynamics utility then you can use it on the master track. If it is a reverb you can still use that routed through the sends, assigned to the appropiate channels. Things like echo's, delays or dx instruments will always display latency, but that goes for other applications too. Reason wont have these issues since their engine is dedicated to merely those machines supplied within reason. Wether that is an issue for the developing producer's ear will depend on where the producer's interests lies. A good producer knows diverse platforms to work with and is able to work out a track, even if he had these timing issues in the past. When talking composing, your keyboard/piano should be the tool that trains your ear's and judges when latency kills functionality. Also, later in the progress of a track, everything will be rendered. That means that all latency problems should be cleared off, if not than you have another issue hehe. That issue depends on wether you cut your sampled correctly or not.

I agree with Formant024... when using FL, it's true that you experience latency... but, when rendered, if you have a good setup, all of that should be cleared and, when you get used to it, you can work with it... I've been a FL user since FL 1.7, I believe (when it was almost a drum machine) and I find that it's so user friendly (compared to Reason) that I just can't change...

i personaly use FL myself but at one point i questioned wether or not i should get some other type of production/sequencing software like reason or somethign along those lines. so i did some research about the ever infamous FL vs. Reason crap. and just to be fair i researched other programs also but reason was the program wich i had heard so much about. well long story short i came across an article explaining some type of timing test they did between reason and fl ( if i can find the link again ill post it but for now sorry) and basically what the out come showed was that reasons step sequence timing is off. for those who didnt understand that that means that your drums are not playin as acurately as possible. or anything put in the sequenecer for that matter. im a drum nut myself so this helped me easily decide to stick with FL. feel free to look further into this to see if im bsin or not.
