i was wondering when you guys and gals started producing how long did it take you to find your style of making music or are you still looking for it.

just something that was going on in my head.

after 4 years of producing, i dont have any style, in my opinion. I can do anything, until i feel it. I love when i do something that sound different. But i dont have a style in particular. Its sad, i dont have a sound signature. Anyways, i love what i do, but i dont have what it takes to go profesionnal, in my opinion. Maybe this site will help me to grow, to find myself.

I havent found mine yet. But i bet most people here have a unique style, they just havent found out wut makes theres different.

Look at timbaland. He does beats that sound completely opposite of eachother. Listen to blueprint2 and see how different all his beats were on there.
But the thing is, you can always tell when its timbaland. Even when its completely different from his other shit.

Most of my beats sound way different then tha last, I don't really want a signature... I guess you could say that I have heavy basslines that carry the tune, almost like some old funk, but not really. Lately, I've been tryin to produce for the future of hiphop, and lose the older sound that I started with. My main influences in the industry don't have much to do with my beats either, which amazes me sometimes... I don't really sound like anything I've ever heard, unless I use somethin like a remix...

If it sounds good to everyone you show it to, and you see people bobbin their heads or even jumpin up n down and actin crazy, then you know your shit is good....

Well im glad i found thins post cause im not gona count the years ive been tring to make music but the amount of years i have had the pro set i got now(two years) tring to make music and for good minute i was really at the point that i was gona give up................but wait i just spent 7 gee's on my set up maybe i can get a good resale value and cop some rims..........NOT! I just found myself as a producer and a overall composer just about a month ago when i change my diet on what kind of music i listen too. I have also been self teaching myself how to play the piano, and it has been working but it wasnt really transfering over to my music as a inprovement to my beats just that i can play the piano or read music. I started out listening to smooth jazz on digital cable one night and something went off, cause im hearing great music with lil to nothing as far as instruments but all the instruments i do hear are following to gether. So i hook my cdrw to my tv and make me cd and i start to listen this stuff every day. I been studying the base lines, and melodies and counter meldies and how to these guys space stuff. I feel like New now i cause everything is about a melodie and how to counter it or build up on it and and from just studying jazz i see things some much easier. Now ill listen to anything a find the main melodie and ask myself how the beat was made. When i now days step to making beats man things are so much easy cause i have a formala now. What i have learn from rap music is most people who make dont have formale music training so when they make a beat they have no set rules to use and as for someobody who is tring to learn from that then it makes things a lil harder and even more worse when they(the listener) try to make a beat. Jazz, Rock, Techno, Contry,Rap...has fed my creative flow so better now that i listen to them all and try to find the melody from it all. I know i have found myself cause im not even into what new keyboard comes out cause after listen to the sounds these guys use, and the songs they have made and whats in my keyboard i know im straight. Spend more time on training my ear and myself and lest money on the new hype of keyboards or drum machines.

I respect this so much cuz......I have maybe close to 1000 records and i dont sample... a sample producer would try to rob me if he seen how many joints i have. When ask why i dont sample some of them i tell them...."If i listen to the record enuff times, while making a beat something from one of those records are gona pop up in my next track, nothing you might notice, but enuff to make that track what is. O yea i forgot to say that in everything we do sometimes finding yourself sometimes just mean breaking your self away from what keeps you the same.....I sound different then some because i dont listen to rap 24/7.....

Good props in the shit d00d... most fooz hate on me lol

I have to say, my momz listened to some country and folk type music when I was a kid, but nothin sounded better to me than some sugarhill gang or herbie hancock for some reason...

I even listened to some kenny rodgers for a second, which Bone sampled (know when to hold em) but I have am not even influenced so much by the music I hear...

Mah homie jwalk told me that you produce what you feel at that moment, and I believe it... I made some music when I was pissed off about a bill collector that never leaves me alone, and it made a seriously angry beat that is meant to have vocal flurries about how money is a whore over it, it willl soon, probably after the bill collector calls me back... AHAHAA

but seriously, you make the music, music never made you... Every person has a style all their own, unless they "feel like" they have none and copy someone else, but we know this is a bitch way to do things.

Maybe we will never find our definition, but I guarantee we will have some DOPE ASS BEATS to show for it.
