TALKING ABOUT MUSIC IS LIKE dancing about architecture, this statement is as accurate as it is absurd. Luckily for evidence of Dilated Peoples his instrumentals are beginning to speak for themselves.

'Red Tape instrumentals' is his first instrumental CD to date and his last offering of ASR beats before making the transition to Propellerheads Reason at the urging of fellow Dilated member and producer DJ Babu. Having produced tracks for Defari, the Dilated Camp, Planet Asia, Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, new friends the Justice League and others, Ev is expanding on an already impressive reputation as an MC and is out to let folks know that he is competent at both ends of the musical spectrum.

Ev is one of those MC/Producers who sounds like he doesn't mind making tracks for himself. Not to say that his tracks are wack, that's far from the case, his beats just happen to have a feel about them that makes you anticipate his voice. His style is very similar to his childhood friend Alchemist. Ominous strings, repetitive piano taps, chopped soul, heavy basslines, spaced out guitar licks, and other random quirky sounds fill the majority of his tracks, like his friend he finds a way to piece all these elements together to create good tracks. It's easy to understand the how and why. Up until this point the two have used the same equipment and grew up together in California surroundings with similar inspirations, I wouldn't be surprised if they were digging in the same crates. The one thing he does better than his friend Alchemist is drums. He seems to take more of an interest in his drums where Alchemist is way more sample driven. His drums are crispier and he uses more snares than Alchemist who tends to recycle the same drum sounds and patterns over but, it's not a competition.

Of 17 tracks about 3 are lackluster. MC's looking for tracks for their next mixtape and new producers looking to learn something about production should stay away from "Streetlights", "Amsterdam", and "Meditation". The CD overall is really dope.
