Cold 187um, also known as Big Hutch, is a rapper from the early 1990's group, Above The Law. With close ties to NWA, they released their debut album Livin' Like Hustlers back in 1990, which was co-produced by none other than Dr. Dre. They also contributed greatly to the success of Ruthless Records after Dre left, with their first four releases going either gold or platinum. This is also where Cold 187um grew as a producer.

Not many people are aware that Cold 187um is a producer because he's mainly known to be a rapper, and the frontman for Above The Law, but while everyone was trying to figure out who was going to step up and help fill the void that Dre left after leaving Ruthless Records, Cold 187um quietly stepped in and did a lot of production for Eazy-E with his solo albums 5150: Home 4 Tha Sick, and It's On 187um Killa. He also produced for MC Ren on his albumThe Villain in Black, as well as All Over A Ho for the Menace II Society soundtrack.

Always coming with that west coast g-funk sound, many say that he originated g-funk, although Dr. Dre has been credited with it. Nonetheless, 187um's style always carried a bass-heavy funk sound with a menacing vibe, but was formed in a way that fit perfectly with any artist he worked with. Even though most of his tracks were not at the top of the Billboard charts, that's not what he was looking for anyway. 187um was making music for the streets.

Even though he was keeping busy behind the boards for Ruthless, due to internal conflict he parted ways with his group and in 1996 he left. Then by 1999 he was brought in by Suge Knight to replace Daz Dillinger as the head producer for Death Row Records. While employed by Death Row, 187um would oversee the production on the 2Pac album Until The End of Time, as well as help finish unreleased Dogg Pound tracks. In 2004 everything was put on hold because for some reason 187um decided it would be a great idea to sell drugs, thus he got arrested for drug trafficking.

Cold 187um has been writing, recording, and touring, and his most recent release was in 2008 with Fresh Out the Pen.
