I agree, but it is still very possible to make a living creating songs for artists. If you are a songwriter and producer that writes hooks as well as the beat, you are far more marketable and sought after than a 13 year old messing around with Fruityloops.
I continue to believe that songwriting is underrated by producers who only believe a "beat" is good enough to write a song. What about writing the catchy melody or line for the chorus? What about a pre-chorus? What about the words for the singer.
I agree those who don't have the ability to write songs should diversify their proverbial portfolio, but one should also look at improving the songwriting aspect of their production, since songwriters are so sought after in rap, pop and R&B.
