The next competition will be from June 20-21st! See the information below.

Signups

The signups will be on June 20th at 10am ET, and end around 8pm ET, or until we have 20 contestants (whichever comes first - depending on the theme). Voting will be for 1 day, on June 21st, where the results will be posted the same day.

Go here to signup (click the "signup" tab - it will open up on the signup day)

Theme: TRAP
  • Your beat MUST be a TRAP beat!
  • Your beat cannot be longer than 90 SECONDS!
You can use whatever sounds you want, samples, synths, just remember to read the rules for the rest of the restrictions. What the judges will be looking for is originality, creativity, mixing skills and overall dopeness!

Voting

If you are competing, you will be able to vote but not for yourself. DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT! I will be watching for cheaters. This means you cannot sign up under different names or get your friends and family to sign up either. If you are caught cheating you could be banned (depending on the mood I'm in).

Beats

All the beats will now be displayed in a random order and without any names. All you will see is: Beat #001, Beat #002, etc. This is so that there is no favoritism when voting.

Sponsor

This month, the competition will be sponsored by Greg Savage & DIY Music Biz, where the winner will get 1 on 1 consultation from industry insider Greg Savage on music licensing.

Rules

If you're not sure about the rules, read this thread.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions about the competition, please post them in here.

Def be signing up - never made specifically a trap beat, but know the requirements for it to classify as trap, i believe anyhow, not 100% sure tho, so gonna give it a shot ;) I usually just start a beat from scratch, and go where it takes me, ought to be fun going for specific genre - any tips etc for making a trap beat will be much welcomed! :) lol isnt it 130-160 bpm usually, 808 drum samples, layered drums etc? What else classifies it as a trap exactly? Synths? Tone? I will learn from this site even more :) As i was hoping :) I just dont want to make a beat i think is trap and ends up bein disqaulified as not being trap afterall ya know lol

LOL! There's plenty of dope Trap beats out there though. The problem I have is there are many that sound generic, if you will. I know the same can be said for any style really, but I've just noticed it more with Trap. I don't want to make this a big debate or whatever, but yeah.

With that being said, when there's a theme it's all about doing what you think it should be, period. My thinking is always "what if a client or label wanted you to make X type of beat?". Think like that. You have to deliver!

I know exactly what you mean. Also is it me or does 90% of trap beats you hear have bells in them? Thats what I love about this site is it challenges you to go outside your comfort zone and teaches you to work on a deadline. I would attempt a trap beat but Ill be on a well deserved vacation for the next week.

right! Trap seems to have such wide ranges - only thing that seems to make a beat trap beat is the 'musts' within such beat like the 808 beat drums, the bpm (but even thats branched out from 90-160 instead of what i thought to be 130-160 bpm! lmao) Much of it seems to have synths as well...I may try bells in mine, idk...We'll see how it all goes ;) Hopefully my beats allowed and considered trap enough lmao

was also reading, trap/edm/club music etc seem to all be mix n matched genres, edm and trap can be one in that same depending on samples, instruments, sub bass, bass, 808s used etc - i never realized this before! But def helps me branch out - Already got a lil somethin somethin in the works :) The 90 min requirement bit tough - already had to cut, but this will help me also, since i tend to get too far out with beats, makin em up to 9 min sometimes! lmfao Id like to work on shorter stuff, get to the melody and to the 'point' of beats faster - this will def help with that also - Im lovin this already ;)

Im in for this one. I went a little different than my normal trappish style. I stepped waaaaaaay outta my comfort zone and still made something pretty trappy. Im excited to see what happens.

**i grew up in the south right around the time trap music was becoming a thing. Now edm and trap blend together (my main two genres, yaaaay lol) but I tried to stay away from edm trap on this one. lol. I brought a bag full of hi hats though. lolol
