personally, i use either Live bass ie ,a real bass guitar, or dirty synth bass....synth bass, is good because you can get your clear sub bass, etc, but also worblers, wobblers, grimey, dark whatever.....
USe filters and learn how to roll certain parts of the bass off in your mix to avoid the muddiness....unless you making some tracks you want to be gritty and not so pleasing on the ear....
SE ATC-1 best hiphop bass synth around, it's mono and analogue. Other bassstuff are real vintage synths, preferably monosynths, dual oscillated.
Sampled bassed are a big no no to me, same like 808kit samples, they never can and will sound the same. To much chaos theory inside a retro device for a pc to emulate the same, or fragment of it. Not my rules, go blame Murphy hehe.
create a new midi track in acid and then use the piano roll to make ur bassline, then insert a vst plugin like rogue etc, and choose the sound u want and change it up a bit, you know make it ur own.
