ill o.g.
While the turntable is important, what really makes a big difference is the cartridge/stylus/needle and preamp. A lot of people had reported big success using a technics SL 1200 using different cartridges/needles etc... do a search on the web for reviews and different combinations.

get a technics 1200 with a stanton stylus, cant go wrong with a sony reciever or better yet a top of the line bose system.

do not buy bose, i repeat, do not buy bose
bose stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment

look up bose on google, theres a pretty popular article that describes fully why you should not buy it

it is built poorly, has a gap in its frequency range, etc.

its something like 40 something percent of the audible sound spectrum that is missing from the bose acoustimass system

bottem line it sucks, read up on it, definately not audiophile hardware

ps: i sent bose and email asking what a specific systems frequency range was because it is listed absolutely nowhere (any consumer electronics retail store will not tell you or list it because they are not given the information)
they sent me a reply saying something like "we do not release that information, we think it will ruin the reputation of our company. we prefer potentional customers to listen to our products too see how good they are" or some b.s. like that
