Hey guys I was wondering how u guys use other peoples vocals
to your own beats. I would love to get and vocal of andre 3000 on one of my beats. I hear it on this site all the time so I was wondering if u could help me out

Couple of basic questions

How do u synch up the vocals and the beat

How to u figure out the BPM of the vocals

Can u stretch the beat or vocals to make em fit??

Anyone got any links to some good acapellas

Sorry if some of these sound basic but I have never tried this before.
If u have a link to any tutorials on this. Or any other tips let me know

Ohh yea I’m using cubase SX

to sync the vocals i time strech but only if the beat is faster than the ryhme or just slightly slower cuz sometimes u get a grainy effect ... or u can change pitch but i dont like doing that cuz it sounds weird to me ...... i figure the bpms by taking a small section like the chorus and making it loop then u can take that loop and put it in the beat calculator and get roughly the right tempo...umm mikelabz had an accapella site i have it somehere but im too lazy to look for it ..try doing a thread search...

I haven't messed too much with acapella's when producing, but a good technique when I was DJ'ing was to match the instrumental of both songs, then take the acapella at that same tempo and BAM! perfect match.

I'll give it a shot of trying to answer you questions:

"How do u sync up the vocals and the beat" - Once you've got the instrumental and the accapella at the same BPM, i align them up just by listening and using my ears. It's easy

"How do u figure out the BPM of the vocals " - Several ways, you could obviously do the maths and divide the 4 beats by the duration of the bar, then multiply by 60. But that is well boring and a stupid way to do it. Easiest way in Cubase is to use the beat calculator (project > beat calculator). Just follow the rythm and tap space on your keyboard.

"Can u stretch the beat or vocals to make em fit??" - Yes, the "time stretch" function will keep the original pitch of what your stretching. But if you stretch TOO much you will notice a slight degredation in sound quality

Hope this helps
