i think it's possible to mix a good track in fl - especially for instrumentals. where it becomes a bit more cumbersome is when you include vocal tracks. that's not to say that you can't mix vocals, but i prefer to do that in a better sequencer... fl 7 has some tight ass shit that will help you... -

I use preset's as well. I actually have presets for both the effect (e.g., compression, eq, etc.) and the Mixer Track State. this saves time as a starting point. -

filtering basslines
