New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Unfortunately that one is too drowned in noise. You can get something out of it but nothing possibly clean because the noise makes things disappear and get distorted (there's very little resolution available in the low frequencies to make up for that). Unrelatedly, I just made this. Some people...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Here's a quick test http://photosounder.com/misc/ray_charles.mp3 There's lots of different bits in that song though, would be simpler if you just sent me a sample of exactly just what you want!

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

I've got the song, and I don't hear any such thing in the first 15 seconds. First there's that "tick tick" thing that opens the song, then a few snares and then some instrument that plays the same note but seems to go up and down cause it's like going through a wah wah pedal or something. Is it...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Well there's still the $37 license ;). The Mac version is already out? Been in beta since June, works just as fine as the Windows version, only a couple of things are lacking, like, you can't open MP3s yet, and the menu is useless (not like there's even any menu on the Windows version). And I...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Same thing except done in 1 minute instead of 10 hours.

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

lol, thanks, but a patent on the actual techniques or ideas used in the program would be worthless : a patent on the actual specific technique would offer little protection because that's unlikely a copycat would use the same approach, and as for the whole concept, there were precedents before...

Video tutorial on isolating sounds with Photoshop

Yeah, it all comes down to making it look as if only what you want was there, and it takes more or less time depending on how good you want it. Yep, 16 bit to preserve the bit depth when doing the gamma correction otherwise you'd lose in quality in the process. Normally you can do it all with...

Video tutorial on isolating sounds with Photoshop

Well, it's just about isolating a feature/kind of feature in the image.. not sure what there is to explain.. if you can tell me what there is that needs an explanation I'll be happy to elaborate :)

Video tutorial on isolating sounds with Photoshop

As a follow up to this thread I just posted a video tutorial on how you can reproduce this or isolate other instruments with Photosounder and Photoshop (or equivalent). http://photosounder.com/blog/2009/04/tutorial-instrument-isolation-funky.html

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

lol thank you thank you. Yes I came up with the idea, I compelled me to learn how to program in C and learn about signal processing. It preserves the quality of the sound only in "lossless mode". Otherwise it can maim the sound pretty badly hehe. And yes, much remains to be done to make it...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Yeah, good luck with that, the full binary can only be downloaded if you already have a serial hehe, so that kind of ruins to point of cracking it ;).

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Millionaire? Right now I'd be happy if I could even get half the minimum wage out of the sales of this thing hehe... although I get unlimited amounts of praise :D. And no I haven't patented it, can't afford it, damn global crisis for making anyone including myself broke! What would such a...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

My sale figures beg to differ, unless you mean I could find a better job than flipping burgers, which I probably can, my point being I don't think I'll manage anytime soon to sell enough of that program to make a living ;)

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

I do, that's why I've been working on this whole thing for 4 years! hehe, that actually started off as my second C program ever. I'm glad people at last realise the potential of this thing, maybe at last it'll sell enough so I don't have to go back to applying at burger joints ;-). "Extra Boy...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

I had never seen it before, just looked it up. That's quite different, although Photosounder could be used to "steal" another tracks equalisation too. You could open both tracks in Photosounder, export both images, then in Photoshop squeeze both images till they're 1 pixel wide, and blur them...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

Well, seeing sounds as images really is my big idea because basically when you look at a spectrogram (a sound's image) you really see what the sound is made of, you see what you hear, so my big starting idea was since you can see all you hear, if you can edit what you see visually and turn that...

New sound separation technique on Funky Worm

I just finished extracting the main whiny instrument from the chorus of Ohio Players' Funky Worm and I thought that the new technique may be of interest to some of you. I detailed and illustrated the technique here http://photosounder.com/blog/2009/03/instrument-isolation-funky-worm.html ...
