I have always been big on hardware.. But it would probably benefit you in the long-run to invest in both.. And it seems like you got a pretty good set up as is.. so i would just rock with that. -

Sampler Budget
Check out ebay when you figure out which one you want.. But for your price range i would look for the Dr Sample or the 404 like jay mentioned. Those should be some good ones to start out with -
