Adding 'Weight' To Your Snare Hits

^ co sign this. I love when something has a little grime and grit to it. As long as it's not muddy or distorting, it's good for me. Everybody got their own way of doing shit. I just love the simpleness of eq'ing it on my vestax and maybe a little more on the mpc. I keep my shit real simple...

Rick Ross needs to A&R Nas' next album

co sign this. I don't understand why nas has trouble with this, considering illmatic was pretty much a production classic. I always thought he should just make a CD with one producer like on some gangstarr shit. Maybe do a whole joint with preemo, next time a whole joint with alchemist and...

Adding 'Weight' To Your Snare Hits

Another trick is I turn my high freq slightly down and my low freq slightly up on my vestax mixer when I'm sampling drums. Get a warmer feel that way. That's why I love the MPC, it's really simple and easy to get a beefy analog feel for your samples

Adding 'Weight' To Your Snare Hits

I use the mpc, so I like to put my kick and snare on another pad and turn the freq setting to zero and layer them with the original pads. Adds that nice bottom, especially for the kicks. That's really the only layering I do for my drums. My mentor taught me one thing about the MPC: If you mix...

Production What about beatmakers that dont know basic music theory

I think when composing your own melodies advanced knowledge of music theory is very much helpful in any situation. If you are completely sample based, in my opinion you can get by with the basics. I have been producing for 8 years (completely sample based) and I've noticed I just have a good...

MPC2000xl Vs Maschine, some quick thoughts for those curious.

Probably do need to read the manual more. was going at it without the manual. That's just how i learn things. Learned the 2000xl like that (My mpc never came with a manual). Will make some time to read about track mute and the swing settings. Just going off what i've learned so far. The MPC...

MPC2000xl Vs Maschine, some quick thoughts for those curious.

Posted about this in a another thread. Dream I agree with you about the chopping in maschine. So simple and easy. The choke group feature is a definite advantage over the 2000. But the drums are not as punchy in maschine as in the mp. Plus maschine has no track mute feature. weak. I usually...

    Beats By Dre!!!

Got the monster studio versions about a month ago. They are definitely useful when my wife is asleep and I can't fire up the rockits. They are good to start a beat on and then I can finish mixing it on the big monitors. Definitely worth the money so I don't have to hear my wife run her mouth...

    Swing/Groove

This is one of my go to formulas on the MPC. Snares: 1/8 or 1/16 50% swing early. Kicks: 52-67% swing early (number depends on feel I'm going for). Hi hats and percussion: 1/16 triple time early. I always use 16 pad velocity for my drums to get that human feel. For my bass, strings ect. I turn...

Bought maschine and now i just use it for the sounds!!

I just bought maschine about three weeks ago. Although I love some of the features, I really can't put it over my 2OOOXL. I just work too quick on the mpc. I can use it in the dark with my eyes closed. But the maschine does have some dope sounds and effects. so I'm just sampling the sounds...
