@Memento Beats - Welcome back! Glad to see you still working on tunes!

Tasty:

I'll preface my notes with the fact that I'm not a fan of trap beats. That being said, this is a well produced beat. You have all the hallmark sounds (bells, mallets, analog drums). I like the details with the snares panning, drop outs, filter sweeps. My main critique is that first melody get's a bit played out. I like when the additional instrumentation comes in during the chorus. Maybe a subtle counter melody or some call and response bits sprinkled through would help.

Violent:

I really like the synth intro! The little slides keep interesting. I feel like you could've gone crazier with synth parameters but this is nice. Again, nice work on the details with the drums and filter sweeps. The big bombastic horns are my favourite part of the beat. I always like the pairing of synths and acoustic instruments. The synth line through 2nd verse is a nice touch too. I find that rich synth sounds can wear down the listener over time, so changing it up was good.

Psycho/Maniac:

Based on the shortened song structure and similar sound, I'll comment on these two together. Again, you have all the hallmarks and they're well produced tracks. I mean this as politely as possible...kinda lacklustre. Maybe it's listening to 4 similar beats in a row coupled with my general disinterest in the genre.

I like your song structure and mixes. Some counter melodies or a "wow" element could really make these next level beats. I kinda think of beats as an outfit. A simple navy blue suit isn't particularly stunning. However, if it's made with quality material (sound selection) and tailored to fit properly (mix) it starts to look (sound) polished and high quality. Add in nice shoes, pocket square, and a tie (melody/harmony) you have a something the viewer (listener) can identify with and remember. Wear a nice watch and that's your "wow" factor.

@Bandia Gotach - when they inevitably make 'The Matrix 5' you should do the score. You're blend of classical, industrial, hip-hop, is definitely one of a kind! There are soo many good things going on in this beat. That wailing, falling violin sound adds tons of emotion and atmosphere. You could've easily used a stock piano or mallet sound, but using that lofi sounding piano adds even more texture and vibe. This is sick! Thanks for sharing.

@Tomblr - Big nostalgia trip listening to this. This style of underground/boom-bap was the soundtrack of my teenage years. I really like the sample choice and the chops. Did you make this on the MPC 1000? Making standalone instrumentals and beats for rappers are very different - and I like that you managed to keep the beat interesting without it distracting from the rappers. Speaking of, while I don't understand a word, they both have a good flow. The DJ cuts are cool too. Really dope!

@Bandia Gotach Cool beat—got a hypnotic, trippy vibe. Pretty dope overall.

I feel like the drums could use a bit more low-end punch, and the hats sound a little too robotic. Maybe try adding some swing or randomizing the velocity to give it more groove.

The arrangement was cool—I could definitely hear this in a movie or TV show scene.

Keep cooking, dope track.

Hey I have heared all the beats and wow, they are incredible I don't have anything to say. As it's supposed for me to give some feedback I will say that for @Memento Beats TASTY I feel that the intro could be more simple so you can build up some energy for a "drop". Like I personally prefer starting with the melody and some simple percusion instead of starting with all the 808's and all that stuff. Anyway that are only minor things everybody's work is insane and I have a lot to learn about your work.

Also I have made this beat, let me know what I can improve:

Every critique is usefull but I am more interested on the second part of the beat as it was my principal option (I just love beat switches).

@BiggChev @KomeKie Thank you very much for your feedback. :giggle: Especially to you Chev for such a detailed breakdown. (y)

I totally agree with you on this. I don't think that these are the most innovative and best beats that were created both by me and in general. However, that was the point from the beginning. In general I learned not to overcomplicate things. Trap, rap, hip hop whatever are pretty simple genres and in my opinion there is no need to reinvent the wheel here. Of course I agree that one could add some more elements to chorus etc. To be honest with you I tried doing this in the past. For beat battles my beats were good as there were a lot of things that kept the listeners engaged and stuff. But... It wasn't necessarily possible to rap over them. :confused: I've tried doing it on some of them (as I used to have a little rap project that was never finished) and it was extremely hard to do so.

Also I haven't had many collaborations with rappers in my "career" (I still think that this is far too big of a word for my adventure with music) but the beats that I managed to sell were pretty simple. There was nothing extraordinary or complicated about them and to be honest with you I wasn't really proud of them. They were just beats. But yet - they got sold. So because nowadays I don't make music that often - I came back to it after a long break with plenty of ideas - and it's not something that I want to pursue I just like making something simple from time to time so that I keep my skills sharp. Over the years I developed some kind of song structure that I would call "my style" and usually I follow it. So yes, I totally agree that these are just decent beats. :)

@Tomblr

I really like this. The beat is simple but with vocals and those cuts everything sounds really great. Mix is on point as far as I'm concerned. The whole production has very old school style. Overall, good production. It was nice to listen to it.

@Bandia Gotach

I enjoyed listening to it. Drums in this track are really powerful. Similarly to @BiggChev I like the whole atmosphere and arrangement of the track. I can't think of any form of criticism here. Great production.

@DJ Excellence

Great old school here! Nothing to add from my side. Great remix.

@KomeKie

Good things:

- I liked that the beat started as an old school one and then it moved to the trap. I also like mixing genres in my beats although I know that it's not visible if you only listen to the last four beats I posted. So it was a good idea from your side.

Things to improve:

- Definitely levels and overall mix. Bass is important in hip hop/trap/rap but you can't overwhelm the listener like you did here. This 808 is too much. It makes the whole mix muggy and it completely takes over the rest of the instruments.
- Generic sound selection when it comes to drums. My first beats sounded similarly to yours to be honest as I didn't have an ear trained enough to find good sounding drum samples. And I'm not referring to finding in physical sense - there are plenty of drum packs on the Internet. I'm talking here about right selection of samples. This is something that you should definitely be working on but don't worry - it will come with time.
- Arrangement - the moment when the beat turns into a trap beat is just a loop repeated a few times. While it's a good idea to create loops and base your beats on them, you can't just repeat them over and over again. You can do a lot with the loop that you already have and make it far more interesting than it sounds at the moment by taking away some elements here, and adding them later on. You can totally hear how I do it in my beats. Maybe this will be helpful for you.

@Memento Beats

Beats made to be rapped over are definitely very different pieces of work compared to stand alone instrumentals.

You’re 100% right. They don’t need to be over complicated or incredibly detailed arrangements if the intent is selling to rappers. I commend you for figuring out what works and making a product that sells.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

I don't have time for detailed feedback but props to everyone dropping extensive constructive feedback.

@Memento Beats Not a trap person at all. Can't say I've listened to more than a half dozen tracks in my life but can say that the quality of the production on all of these are tight. @BiggChev feedback says it all really.

@Bandia Gotach Again not my vibe and I always feel bad not replying or critiquing but find it near impossible to do so. However your brand, your work rate and quality is always of the highest standard. This was no different.

@DJ Excellence Classic DJ Excellence beat. Hits just right. Rhymes not my vibe at all.

@Tomblr Classic boom bap ish. Not a fan of strings but you nailed the vibe here and the drums and overall production was super tight.

@KomeKie I loved it UNTIL the beat switch but huge props and envious that you appreciate and dapple in such a broad spectrum of genres. Will only help your cause as a beatmaker.

@DJ Excellence

Another great remix. The eerie, dark vibe if the beat is great! I feel like the only thing I ever comment is "great match, fits vibe, dope feel" but you do a great job of putting together remixes. I'm from that generation where we'd just slap any vocals over a beat and call it a remix -- I suppose more of a "mash up." Your stuff seems to have a lot more intent, or at least you have crazy good associative memory and know exactly what record to pull.

@KomeKie

Keep the beats coming! Not sure how much time you're spending in the lab working, but it's paying off. From first beat to this - big improvements. Mixes still need work (I saw your post about mixing 808s) but it's definitely coming along. I think the sample/melody could stand out a bit more, but it'll come with practice and feedback. I'm not a trap/808 fan but I appreciate the intent. Like @hosie I prefer the front half before it goes into the trap style.
